The wonder of Volendam

Volendam was absolutely precious – so adorable you would think that Disney had a hand in its creation.   Over the top cuteness.   We walked along the top of the dike and saw ancient fishing boats next to a boardwalk of restaurants and souvenir shops selling little clogs.

After days of wet weather somehow we were blessed with a beautiful day and enjoyed Volendam with our friends Monique and Remy and their wonderful children.

We went to the Volendam museum and saw what life was like years ago and for some reason there is an entire room decorated in cigar bands, really elaborate.

Is it just me, or do most Americans think that dikes are about the width and heigth of a bus?  Boy was I wrong, the dikes we saw had rows of house built on top of them!

Our time in Holland was wonderful and I hope we will return.
